foot stepsLast week we did the 2nd challenge for the blogging challenge which was telling people what a digital dossier is. A digital dossier  and how you joined websites. It also keeps your information when you join a website and it starts when you are born. Here are some of the websites I am a member of :

  • Facebook
  • Glogster
  • Edublogs
  • Twiducate
  • Moodle

A lot of these websites ask the same information when you register. It will probably ask these questions like: What Country do you live in, What is your birth date, What is your age, What is your name, and what is your home town. Some websites you may have to pay to use it but many you do not have to pay. This gives you more information of what a digital dossier is and be more carefull of what you are saying when you join a website.

computerEvery day people don’t realize that being on the Internet can put you at risk. That’s why in Europe, they have a day that helps people remember, Safer Internet Day which happens on February 8th. This day is a perfect opportunity to think about how savvy I have become. Even though this day started in Europe  it now has spread to a lot of different countries.

If you post a video or a picture of someone or even you on a website like youtube or facebook you should be careful because anyone in the whole world can see it if you don’t adjust your privacy settings. sometimes this might be very embarrassing. To prevent this from happening, before you post anything you should get permission of the person to see if they mind. Everything you put on the Internet is scanned by search engines like Google, Yahoo, Bing and a lot of others. Every word, picture and video is saved forever even if you delete it, it still stays in their cache.

So I hope I encouraged you to check to get permission from people before you put their image or information on the Internet. Protect you personal information. Be Internet savvy!

What do you think of Safer Internet Day?

hockey sticksSports are really fun. I do a lot of sports such as hockey, soccer, football, tennis, basketball, and many others. My favourite sports are hockey and soccer. They are both similar but in different types of ways. They both have two nets and two teams. You need to score in both sports, but one has ball and the other has a puck.

I have been playing both soccor and hockey for 7 years each. I really enjoy both of these sports because they are really energetic and active. It gives you exercise and it helps you learn how to play as a team.

First, I will tell you about hockey. Well there are three types of hockey: ice hockey, floor hockey, and road hockey. There is also field hockey but it’s quite a bit different and has a different stick and rules. I usually play ice hockey. In a hockey game, there are two teams and two nets. Each team has a net. You need to move the puck with a hockey stick down the ice and try to shoot it in the opponent team’s net. If you do score it is a goal and whatever team has the most goals win. There are 6 players on the ice. There is the centre man who tries to win face offs and tries to get goals. Then there are the right and left wings. They also try to score. Next there are the right and left defence. They try to stop the other team from scoring in their team’s net. Last there is the goalie which blocks and saves shots that are going in the net. In hockey there are three periods that are usually 15 -20 minutes long.

Soccer is the exact same except you play with a soccer ball and you kick it instead of using a stick. There are two halfs in soccer which are 30 minutes each. Well that’s all you need to know about soccer and hockey.

What is your favourite sport!

aiden_jpollockJackson Pollock is a famous artist that expresses his soul in his paintings. He was born in Cody, Wyoming in 1912. He paints lines, splatters, and swirls by walking and dancing around a canvas and dripping paint with slashing movements of his arms. He used sticks, paintbrushes and poked holes into a paint can to drip paint on the canvas. Sometimes, he would slide the paint cans along a rope so they dripped across the painting. He also crushed glass and used sand to create more texture. He died in a single-car crash August 11 in 1956 at 10:15 pm.

He painted with the seven elements of art. These are:

  • texture can be seen and felt. It will feel and look smooth or rough.
  • shape are created by lines. The main shape are circle, square, rectangle, and triangle
  • colour is created by reflections of light. There are plenty of colours.
  • value is like different shades of a colour like dark blue and light blue.
  • lines can be straight or curved and as short or long.
  • form is when shapes are put together to create width, height and length and that is when a form is created.
  • space is where you use flat objects to make it look like when something is close or faraway just by angling the right camera angle.

Jackson used texture in his paintings by letting it dry to make it smooth or rough and adding the sand and glass. He used colours in his paintings. Sometimes he would use several colours and other times use only a little. He used lines in his paintings by slashing random paints different directions which made lines.

Jackson Pollock’s paintings are different from mine because I used a computer to paint and he used hardened paint brushes, sticks, paint cans, basters,  and paint. I painted by looking straight at a computer and he looked down on a canvas which he danced and walked around. I used more colours than Jackson Pollock would usually use but he got to pick his colours and I didn’t.

What do you think of Jackson Pollock’s art?

bullingPink Shirt Day is called that because of an incident in 2007. One day a student in grade nine decided to wear a pink shirt to school. A lot of kids laughed and made fun of this kid. All day he put up with the bulling and when he got home he was miserable.

Two grade twelve students went on Facebook and other Internet websites, and they told as many people as they could to wear a pink shirt the next day. The grade twelves also went to all the Salvation Army and thrift stores to get as many pink shirts as they could. The next day the bullied student did not want to go to school but he did. He got there and saw a lot of people wearing pink, and if a person didn’t have a pink shirt the grade twelves would give them one if they wanted one. The grade nine boy felt relieved and happy that everyone did this for him.

I think it’s great to have a day for anti-bulling, so now people can remember how mean and how hurtful you can make others feel by bullying. There are four types of bulling. They are:

  • Physical: punching, fighting or anything physically hurting someone.
  • Cyber: when you spread a rumour or do something that can hurt someone on the Internet.
  • Verbal: can hurt someone by calling them rude names or anything that you say to hurt someones feelings.
  • Social: when you point and laugh at someone and tell all of your friends about someone your making fun of.

All four of these bullying types can hurt someone really bad. I will not be a bystander, but I will stand up to a bully if they are bullying me or another kid. If it’s not safe to stand up to them I will get an adult to help.

This dessert is really delicious. I decided to talk about this dessert because I just baked some at home about a week ago. My mom or my sister invented this recipe I think, but I’m not sure. My whole family like’s this dessert especially me. It takes 15 to 20 minutes to make them. There are lots of ingredients needed to make brownie chip cookies but it’s worth it. Here is the recipe to make this dessert.

  • 1 1/3 of a cup of margarine
  • 1 cup of brown sugar
  • 2/3 cup of sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1  1/2 tsp. of vanilla
  • 2  1/4 cups of flour
  • 2/3 of a cup of coco
  • 1 tsp of baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp of salt
  • 3 tsp of milk
  • 1 cup of chocolate chips

Mix all of those ingredients. Drop spoonfuls of the batter on an ungreased cookie sheet. Next bake them at 300°F for 10 minutes and last but not least look inside to see if they are ready.  If  not put them in for another 2 minutes.

Please let me know if you baked some and if you liked them.

Our class created stick-figure break dancing videos with an application called Pivot Stickfigure Animator for a Dance Off!  It’s not just for us.  Anyone can try to make a video for this. You should try to  make one. You can make a stickman do almost anything. I think this project was really fun because our class got to make our own dance moves. Let me know if you liked my video.

Day 337 - white christmas (tree)Christmas is coming in 9 days. Christmas is my favourite holiday of the year. I get lots of presents from my family, friends and Santa Claus. I also give presents to my family and friends. My biggest gift I got at Christmas was a Wii which was when I was 8 years old. I love the Christmas decorations all over the tree. I also like Christmas colours which are green and red. I think Christmas is not all about presents and decorations. I think Christmas is about getting your family together and getting along.  My family does lots of Christmas traditions such as singing Christmas Carols, making gingerbread houses and gingerbread men, and a lot of other traditions.

What do you think of Christmas?

°protractorMy class has been working on angles in math. Angles are really fun and they are also everywhere. The whole world is made up of angles.  For example if you look in the woods  trees have  branches that are connected to the trunk and form a type of angle.   Buildings  have many angles. For instance a right angle is 90° and you can see them in corners of rooms or the outside of the buildings.

For three weeks my class has been doing gymnastics in the gym. We did rotations such as 90˚ ,180˚, 270˚, 360˚ and higher. These are quarter turns, 1/2 turns,   3/4 turns and a full turn. We took pictures all over the playground of angles. The angles we were looking for were:

  •  acute – less than 90°
  • obtuse- more than 90°
  • right- 90°
  • straight-180°
  • reflex-more than 180° less than 360°

After we took pictures, we downloaded them on the computer. Next we labelled the type of angle it was. Last we measured the angles to see if they were the correct type of angles. We also played games that included angles such as Alien Angles. We did a angle scavenger hunt too and lots of activities that included angles.

What do you think of angles?
